A close up of the front plaque of the Angaston War Memorial, depicting men from this area who lost their life during the Second World War.

Nuriootpa

A street junction in Nuriootpa, Barossa Valley - South Australia. The naming of these two streets were in commemoration of two campaigns which no doubt, had a major influence on the population of this small town. One can only speculate that perhaps, a number of residents from this township served in this theatre of operations. As the 2/27th Infantry Battalion, AIF was from this particular state - it is highly likely that there is some relationship between this battalion and the residents of Nuriootpa. Whilst the 2/27th did in fact serve on the Kokoda Track, they were later deployed to Gona and not Buna. So this raises a point for discusssion.

DO YOU HAVE A STREET IN YOUR TOWN THAT WAS NAMED IN HONOUR OF A PARTICULAR CAMPAIGN? IF SO, PLEASE SEND US YOUR PHOTOS FOR INCLUSION TO THIS REGISTER.
