This pictorial library is devoted to the recording of "Uniform and Kit" issued to an American Soldier of the United States Army and the U.S. Marine Corps, during the Second World War. Consider it a virtual "Q" Store in U.S. militaria. It is not exhaustive and will be added to over time. Any reader who wishes to contribute photographs and text will be recognised and credited with such information. I also invite collectors of other nation's militaria to forward content (please see our other countries listed on the drop down menu) - so that a comprehensive list of "Axis" and "Allies" uniform/kit is detailed.
THIS WEBPAGE IS CONSTANTLY BEING ADDED TO - SO PLEASE VISIT AGAIN
Flag of the United States of AmericaWithout a doubt, this flag is perhaps the most recognizable flag in the world. During World War Two, it featured prominently on the sleeve of many U.S. Servicemen and became a symbol of freedom and industrial might.U.S. M1 Steel HelmetThe M1 Army Helmet entered service with the U.S. Army and related branches in 1942; replacing the M1917A1 steel helmet (British Brodie style with minor variations) The M1 Helmets of the Second World War had an alloy seam around the outer edge; which was joined at the front of the helmet visor. Relic helmets, found in New Guinea and the Solomons display this perfectly;- with the shell of the helmet being affected by corrosion - whilst the rim is unaffected by rust.Colt 1911 Pistol .45 CalibreThe Colt 1911 Pistol is a semi-automatic, recoil operated hand gun which was in service with the U.S. Armed Forces from 1911 through to 1985. Subsequently, it saw front line service in four major conflicts - from World War One through to Vietnam. It is magazine fed with a 7 round capacity. Being the same calibre as the Thompson Sub-Machine Gun, it was a hard hitting weapon at short ranges.Leather Holster for the Colt 1911 PistolThe holster which saw service with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps during World War 2 was an 'enclosed' holster of leather construction. The flap which secured the pistol was embossed with the initials "U.S." and was fastened by manner of a single brass post. Generally the colour of the holster was either black or tan, although there is some evidence of colour alterations being made in the field - by combat troops. |
