A.J.LEESE
Medal Type: WW1 - 1914-1915 Star Medal Trio
Service No: 4049
Unit No: 4
Corps/Service:
Engineers
Country: Australia
I am looking for my relatives lost medals. Arthur Jackson LEESE. The First World War Embarkation Roll indicates that he left Sydney on the 12th of May, 1915 aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) as part of the 17th Infantry Battalion. At this time, he was serving under the serial number of 255, however at some time, his serial number was altered to 4049 and this is reflected in his service record on the National Archives of Australia file. This was possibly as a result of his transfer to the 4th Field Company Engineers (4 FCE). Subsequently, I have duplicated this request under both service numbers, as I am not sure what numbers are stamped on each individual war medal. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, and Victory Medal. The medals were lost in a recent removal and my family would be very grateful for their return, should somebody have found them.

R.HARRIS
Medal Type: WW1 - Death Plaque a.k.a Memorial Plaque
Service No: 517
Unit No: 2
Corps/Service:
Infantry
Country: Australia
I am seeking the Memorial Plaque (also known as a Dead Man's Penny') of Private Richard HARRIS of the 2nd Infantry Battalion, AIF. It appears that this name "Richard Harris" is in fact an alias. His correct name is stated to be Joseph DOYLE; although why he would enlist under this name is not known. The First World War Embarkation Roll indicates that he left Sydney on the 18th of October, 1914 aboard HMAT Suffolk. This soldier landed at Gallipoli on the 25th of April, 1915 (first day lander) and sadly, he was posted as 'missing' by the 2nd of May. This posting was eventually and officially changed to "Killed In Action" after a court of inquiry. The Commonwealth War Graves records (CWGC) indicate that he has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Lone Pine Memorial at Gallipoli. Any assistance in helping me to recover this missing Death Plaque would be greatly appreciated.
